Hipster's Delight Walking Tour

Food and Cultural Experience

Duration: 8 Hours

What is provided? Lunch, One Drink and Movie Ticket

Language: English

Highlights:

Singapore is one hell of a place to live in; half the island constantly progresses with grand gestures and glass-clad mountains while the other half unbeknownst to the world stands still rigid as a rock as if resisting the rising developments around it. Like the Thieves Market that was reluctantly closed for good in July 2017, tradition is losing its war to swanky housing estates and fancy bars. Before the magic of age-old traditions in our first-world country fizzles out, we implore you to see our little red dot through the eyes of a native.

You will join up with us at a coffeeshop for a local fare on the outskirts of Chinatown before traversing the hip new neighbourhood of Tiong Bahru. Stroll through one of the oldest housing estates of Singapore and observe the new and the old operating side by side. Nitpick records at a hidden record store or visit one of the oldest furniture stores still standing from the 60's. Scope out the nearby Tiong Bahru market and appreciate the local street food culture or cool off with some desserts and tea. Straying slightly off tangent onto an unbeaten trail, we will take a hike along Henderson Waves (a wonderful alternative to the Gardens by the Bay) and appreciate the sunset from the futuristic bridges that were the backdrop to Hollywood sci-fi flick 'Equals'. A quick ride on the local public transport system will take us to Haji Lane where we will get into cafe culture and independent boutique stores on the strip. After-dinner plans will be at one of Singapore's oldest but poshly renovated screening rooms to catch independent films or arthouse flicks. Choose either a pre-movie drink at a rooftop bar or go on a hunt for some of the country's best curry puff as detailed by Chris Ying from Lucky Peach.
